“Porque somos werkenes pero también somos weichafes dentro de nuestras comunidades. Nosotros, pu peñi, y hablamos de tal manera que le decimos al estado de Chile que no le tenemos miedo, que no tenemos miedo a la represión; qué la vida no se la vamos a entregar a ellos, que la vida se la vamos a entregar a nuestra tierra, porque de ello venimos, y a ello vamos a volver. Esas personas, a los gobernadores (…) hay que hacerles un llamado; hay que decirles, que no importa lo que tengan, que no importa cuánto dinero o cuanto armamento tengan, que no les tenemos miedo. Que nosotros, pu peñi, sabemos sonreír cuando nadie puede sonreír, que sabemos llorar cuando tenemos que llorar, pero de nuestra tierra, pu peñi, de nuestro territorio, absolutamente nadie nos va a mover, absolutamente nadie nos lo va a quitar nuevamente”
Extract of speech given by Mijael Carboné Quipul, a Mapuche werken, at a massive protest in Temuco, Chile, in which Mapuche children handed back 3 sacks full of tear – gas projectiles and bullet shells to the regional headquarters, shot by Carabineros.

We, pu peñi, speak in a way in which we tell the State of Chile that we’re not afraid of them, that we’re not afraid of repression, that we’re not going to give them our lives, that we’re giving our lives to our land, because it’s there where we come from, and there where we’re going back to. Those people, the governors (…), we have to let them know that, it doesn’t matter what they’ve got, it doesn’t matter how much money or ammunition they’ve got; we’re not afraid of them. That we, pu peñi, we know how to smile when nobody can, that we know how to cry when we have to, but, from our land, nobody is ever going to move us, nobody is going to take it from us again, ever”.

If you were to describe the music of MONO as “heavy,” chances are I’d laugh so hard my coffee would shoot out my nose. That being said, this album leans very heavily on the neo-classical side and makes this album sound “lighter” than others. But this album also leans perhaps more heavily on the melancholy (due to the more prominent neo-classical influences). Overall, this album feels very reflective and warm, like the embrace of a loved one.
